How we do it
Jim and Carla White owned the first Bichon either of us had met. We were both attracted to the dogs happy and friendly manner and our friends obvious devotion to them made us realize that this breed was extra special. When we took over Koocanusa Bichons, it was our primary goal and still is today, to keep the Bichon kennels the happy, cheerful place it was when we bought it and to keep as many of Jim and Carla's standards as possible.
Today we try to breed a small number of quality Bichons that meet the standards of the breed. We pride ourselves on the fact that our Bichon Frise pups are born in our home and remain an integral part of our family life until they are placed in their new homes at 8 weeks. Early and consistent socialization is a high priority for us.
Since we are essentially "outdoor people" and "homebody's" we have chosen not to become involved in showing our Bichons. To stay home on the beautiful West Kootenai and enjoy breeding and caring for our Bichons is proving to be very rewarding in itself.
The Bichon Frise is truly a special breed of dog with enough love and affection to share with anyone who is interested...we know...we breed them. Because we breed them, we would like to share a little information about the Bichon, our breeding program and about our AKC Bichon family.
These small dogs are bred strictly for companionship, are considered to be a lap dog, relate well with adults, children and most other dogs. They are not "yappers!" The Bichon Frise is non-shedding and hypoallergenic, which makes it an ideal pet for those with allergies. The white coat of the Bichon is thick and curly. This little dog proudly carries it’s plumbed tail over its back with a merry little gait.
Daily care, love and affection is given to both Mom and her new puppies so that human contact is the norm. Reports regarding ease in bonding and training from our Bichon buyers have been positive and we believe that is due to the consistent human contact we have with our pets.
If you are interested in a pet that will bond with all members of the family may we suggest you consider a Bichon Frise ... We believe it is The Ultimate Companion Dog! Is distance a problem for you?
